NYCTV

If you live in New York or New Jersey, or you're planning on visiting, I really recommend you watch  NYCTV on channel 22. You don't have to live in the city to get this channel which I love, because living out of the city in the suburbs of New York, I like to still feel connected to it. This has to be one of my favorite channels because of their shows "Videofashion Daily", and "Backdrop N.Y.C".

It's the only channel that I know of that plays fashion shows. Essentially, NYCTV introduced me to fashion week, I have been watching their coverage of New York Fashion Week for years. There newest fashion program is Videofashion Daily. It's really a great show. Every Saturday at 10 PM, it airs. They always show about five different shows - not from New York only - but from Paris, London, and Milan too. Plus they show old footage of fashion shows from "The Vault" of designer houses such as Nina Ricci and Dior. They even show designer and model spotlights. You should be able to watch some of their episodes on their website, unfortunately it won't load on my computer though.

Another reason why I love this channel is because of their show "Backdrop N.Y.C" which airs short films from New York. Some of the short films are truly beautiful. Tonight they aired a really great film entitled Twitch.

This film, created by Leah Meyerhoff is about a post-adolescent girl who must care for her dependent wheelchair-bound mother, it takes you through her emotions towards facing an uncertain future, and how she is entering into the emerging world of sexuality, with her eager boyfriend. I recommend you watch it. It's not for everyone, but I found it to be moving how Leah Meyerhoff was able to capture this girl's whole life in just a little over 9 minutes.  It's a tale about growing up, and having to face things that you don't want to deal with. There comes that point where you have to say goodbye to innocence and naïveté, push your hair behind your ears, and deal with real life.
