Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture
Old Hollywood. I see Garbo, Catherine Deneuve and Katharine Hepburn…symbolizing stars in the sky. I love it.
I never expected JPG to do an old Hollywood homage. I always understood him as a fashion forward man who does avant garde, deconstructionist pieces. He is a Parisian designer. I always thought old hollywood glamour was reserved for the Milanese. But boy, oh boy, did he get me pleasantly surprised with this collection that looks inspired by the movie Metropolis and 1940’s glamour.
But now, come to think of it, he is quite old hollywood. I mean, the Madonna cone bustiers and cone bras were definitely inspired by those 1940’s sweater girls.
I have to talk about the perfect casting of the show first.
Lara, vava va voom! Oh lala! That is all I can say, Ms. Brigitte Bardot 2009.
I love how JPG’s fall 2009 RTW leggings resurfaced in this manner. I loved those leggings then and I love them here.
Erin O’Connor, you are a goddess! Nice to see her on the runway. And OMG I want that leather coat-dress. Imagine having to walk the dog or and just throwing that on.
Show stopper! That teal-grey dress was the first thing I clicked ‘save picture’. Lakshmi, I love you!
Karlie, if you keep your mouth shut for the next couple years until you turn 18, then maybe, just maybe, i might love you. Because this betch looks ferociously fierce, I can no longer deny it. One degree from perfection with that mouche.
Although beautiful, these two pieces were severely out of place. Were they even from the 40’s era? The one on the right looks more like from the feather Rodarte era.
Serious Metropolis and Barbarella vibes here.
As much as I love the Blade Runner references, it is starting to get hackneyed for me. Stefano and everyone else has done it by this point. Although I admit, their particular execution of this reference was very well done.
If my overalls were made of reptile skin or lamé, I’d definitely wear them more often. Genius. But wtf JPG? You are just inviting PETA to sabotage you.
Now THESE are skyscraper outfits!
These are what I generally expect from JPG. Although Sasha’s outfit is slightly Margiela-ized. Love the poofiness of her hair.
Very old hollywood. Lovely, although I really don’t know how to feel about them. And it sort of bothers me that all their hairstyles are different.
I am not a huge fan of fur seeing as how they stink, or how quickly they stink…but hot damn, I would not mind stepping into these extremely comfortable looking pieces. I would sleep in them and use the fur trims as cushions.
Bedazzled Margiela. ‘Nuff said.
Overall, this collection blew me away beyond expectation.
So how long do you think it will take until Stella makes knock offs of this collection?

That black and white gown that the model is wearing next to Sasha is so beautiful. Really, it's gorgeous. And that gown Lakshmi is wearing is unbelievably well designed. The collection is very interesting. Some of it I cannot stand, but some of it is very beautiful.
OH MY GOD.
Best collection so far. No doubt. When I first saw it, my jaw dropped throughout the whole thing. I don't care that it was inconsistant, I LOVE IT.
Damn! I love it.. I kind still like Givenchy a little more though, I'm more victorian/gothic/whatever you would call that than Old Hollywood. Definitely my 2nd favorite though!
I really liked what Magdalena was wearing.. I thought it was kind of reminiscent of something from Dolce & Gabbana Spring 07 though (Or Lady Gaga wearing that metal dress-thing in her papparazzi video. ugh.) but I still love it..
And Natasha Poly.. I love the fur coat with the minidress! Perfect.
Holy slut. Once again, Gaultier proved me that he is my favorite designer for a good reason.
Best couture collection in both Spring and fall 2009 couture.
He could've used less fur and leather though.
