Madonna’s Givenchy
Me thinks it looks so much better in the sketches.
Why so many crucufixes Vadge? I thought you went Kaballah on our asses?
As Eva Peron in Evita she begged to be Christian Dior-ed, and Madonna shows no signs of slowing up on the designer demand when it comes to her latest project: the Sticky & Sweet world tour, which kicks off on August 23.
With long-term costume designer Arianne Phillips at the style helm, the Material Girl's repertoire of looks will include elements from Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Miu Miu, Stella McCartney, Moschino and Jeremy Scott; there are even bespoke Tom Ford suits for the band.
It is Givenchy costumes, however - especially designed for Madonna, with Art Deco and gypsy references, by creative director Riccardo Tisci - that look set to steal the show.
"Riccardo's a new young talent. If you look at Madonna's history with fashion, that makes him an obvious choice," Phillips tells WWD.
Madge kicked off her show on a moving silver throne, wearing a Givenchy one-piece, fishnets and thigh boots to perform in front of a crowd of 40 000. Kanye West, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake also appeared on video to lend her some support.
Although I wish my sketches were that good, I find the whole thing a yawn. Tisci hasen’t been too creative lately.

WOW yeah those sketches really are fabulous

So, can you explain the whole sketching thing - does Riccardo make them himself, or does her have people make them? I'm not the biggest fan of the actual garments, but I think the sketches are beautifully done.
I think all major design houses have a staff of illustrators. I am not sure if this is Riccardo's actual handiwork, but it is possible.
