Why Hasn't Meryl Streep Been On Vogue?

It seams as though Vogue has been regularly featuring critically acclaimed actresses on their covers for decades now, so why hasn't the woman who earned the title of "America's best actress" ever earned her spot on this magazine?

Meryl Streep has had 15 Academy Award nominations - the most acting nominations anyone has had, and we all know that Vogue loves the Oscar girls...

Every year we have Nicole Kidman, Keira Knightley, Gwenyth Paltrow etc.. and with next month's cover girl set to be Charlize Theron, I can't help but wonder why one of Hollywood's most well-respected actresses is constantly ignored. She appeared on an issue of Vogue Paris in the 1980's but since then Streep has never appeared on any other covers for the magazine. I find this especially odd considering everyone from Paris Hilton to a mediocre actress from the CW show "Gossip Girl", to Donald Trump's new wife has been on Vogue.

Although Meryl Streep has a new film ("Julie & Julia") coming out soon, and another new film coming out this winter with Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin entitled "It's Complicated" Charlize Theron lands a Vogue cover even though I'm not sure she even has anything to promote.

This is Meryl Streep's last fashion magazine cover from three years ago:

So, is it because Meryl Streep isn't in her 30's? Or is it because of the way she looks? Or is it because of this?

Perhaps Anna holds a grudge against Meryl after "The Devil Wears Prada"?
Even though Anna has politely said that she supported the film, there have been many reports that she pressured fashion designers not to be a part of the film or else she would not feature them in her magazine.

I know this post was kind of pointless but I couldn't think of anything else to write about. Haha!

I believe its the Miranda Priestley Role that has kept Meryl from the cover of Vogue. However Meryl did D.W.P. recently, she's been actings for decades and still no Vogue Cover so it could be that Meryl is just not that Gorgeous, Thin, or fashionable... Perhaps All Three! lol!

Well, she's 60. I think she'd be perfect on an "Age Issue", I think she's very smart and elegant. Maybe she's not the most exuberant person, but I find her interesting, and I would like to know more about her. But you're probably right, I guess you just have to be young now and it doesn't really matter if you're graceful or talented.

haha cute theories kasia!

Maybe she's get a cover when she wins another oscar?

I think maybe it is because she was never the type to sell much magazines as a cover.

I remember that W cover, she wasen't supposed to be on it but Lilo insisted and loved the idea of the whole mother daughter thing with meryl.

desperate times call for desperate measures i guess and putting a 60 year old, greatest living actress, might be too risky.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I like Meryl a lot though, she was on "The Tonight Show" and she was telling stories about her first film - with Woody Allen - and how they didn't think she wasn't sexy enough to play a writer. Haha! I would read an interview with her, she must have so many great stories considering she has been in the business for so long. :)
