Influence Me, YSL

I could have called this post
"Yves Saint Laurent and the art of Flowers", but our girl Kasia was quicker than me and got the fantastic idea of this even more fantastic outfit. And you know what they say... a picture's worth a thousand words.

Days ago, when the Vivienne Tam outfits were revealed with our favourite guilty pleasure (a.k.a. the spoilers glitch), an outfit called my attention. And it reminded me of something I had seen before. I really like Vivienne's clothes, she has excelled with that silk crafting technique so far that her clothes could be considered work of arts themselves.

But... I have seen his beautiful outfits before, I thought. And I rushed to my pics archive (I tend to save lots of pics in my computer with no particular reason) and I found it. Three little letters and you got the solution: YSL.

Nobody can deny Yves Saint Laurent was a great designer, but nobody can deny Stefano Pilati is doing his best either. He did his homework and checked YSL archives and with his own brilliant mind came out with fabulous creations.

The coat on the left is from Yves Saint Laurent's 1986 Fall Collection. On the right you can see an awesome wedding gown designed for the 1999 Spring Collection.

The following pics are from Yves Saint Laurent's Fall 2006 Collection. I love this coat, and I'm sure Kasia remembered it as well.

The following pics are from Yves Saint Laurent's Spring 2007 Collection.
Stefano Pilati said he had been inspired by "violets, which to the Greeks symbolized modesty, humility, and virginity—and the feeling of transition from spring into summer." Check out these gorgeous, delicate dresses.

I like Vivienne Tam's Spring 09 Collection.
But I will always love YSL's art of flowers better.

Thank you for featuring me!
I just love Yves Saint Laurent. Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Prada etc... might be bigger names in the mainstream, but there is no other designer who contributed more than Yves Saint Laurent - and I wholeheartedly believe that. Even 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 years later, Yves' ideas and views are still an evident throughout designer collections today. Yves Saint Laurent has inspired so many people to create beautiful things.

Stefano's direction for the brand has been perfect, and I think he shares many characteristics with the late Yves Saint Laurent himself, in terms of natural elegance and innovation - unlike Tom Ford who was trying to force a different style on to the Yves Saint Laurent brand that was very successful commercially, but not it wasn't true to what YSL is - at least, in my opinion. Everything had to be oozing glamour and sex appeal. He made some great advertisements, in my opinion, but that's just the thing. He's a business man he knows how to sell things. I'm just glad that Yves got to see Stefano's work for the brand before he passed.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like Tom Ford. I am just really happy with Stefano Pilati. :)

I love the ensemble Kasia.:-)

Did you know Yves had wanted Alber Elbaz to take over after he left, but then the Gucci company bought the YSL label and that's why Ford ended up with the job.

Could you imagine what would have happened if Elbaz had taken over from the getgo?

Haha! Well, Rima, Alber did design for YSL for a few seasons, and produced really great work. I don't hate Tom, but I just think someone like Stefano or Alber are better for the brand.

I watched a designer marathon the other day and got to see Tom Ford design's for YSL and I have to say they were very disappointing. He's a great designer, but for Menswear. He did a great job at Gucci, but he never herad to Yves Saint Laurent or checked out the label archives. Ford wanted to impose his view on a label that needed nothing from him but to continue YSL's legacy. I'm so happy thay got Stefano, he's a real genius.

And about Alber, I love what he's doing in Lanvin. I read somewhere that Karl Who is supposed to leave Chanel and Alber i supposed to replaci him if that happens. I couldn´t agree more. I mean, Alber would do even better than Karl at Chanel.

Yeah. But, you also have to remember that Tom's designs for YSL are from over 5 years ago - and things were different then. But you're right, I think he did a much better job at Gucci. He made Gucci a luxury brand. Frida is doing horribly at Gucci, in my opinion.

Yeah, you're right. Karl's 75, so he must retire eventually, and when he does that leaves all three; Chanel, Fendi, and Karl Lagerfeld. I think Alber would do well at Chanel also.
God, when that day comes - when Karl retires - the fashion industry will go crazy. I personally am not the biggest fan of Chanel - but I would say that it is the top. Chanel is like Vogue. Karl retiring is like Anna retiring - whoever replaces him will become an icon in this industry. It would be cool if they went with someone new - or someone who you wouldn't normally think of. Major luxury brands love doing that as we have learned.
