YSL and The Supers: Who’s Next?
Kate Moss in Spring 2008Naomi Campbell in Fall 2008
Claudia Schiffer in Spring 2009
Christy Turlington in Fall 2009
I love the fact that Yves Saint Laurent Keeps using Supers for their ad campaigns.
Who do you think is next? I hope it is Linda.
And doesn’t that picture, from backstage of a Gianni Vesace show, look like a yearbook picture for football or basketball where the players are taking a knee in the front? They do look like basketball players, with Baby Kate being the shortest. My god is she short. And she is like one of the best. Strange. And Carla Bruni, in the very middle looks like the team captain. I wonder if she knows that she will be the first lady of France one day, with Mr.Galliano making custom Dior for her at every occasion.

Oh my Naomi!
If I had to pick one of the supers, I would want Stefano to use Tatjana Patitz or Naomi again. But, honestly, I would rather he used a young model - there are a ton who represent the Yves Saint Laurent name well.
I'd love if Pilati chose Olga Sherer or Kasia Struss. Since everybody expects him to use one of the supers, using a young model would come as a surprise.
I do not agree with that at all.
I think Yves Saint Laurent is of a very refined taste and mature demeanor...I think a young model would look weird to me, like Karlie or Kasia would look like a 14 year old trying to dress up in their granmother's clothes.
Unlike Chloe, YSL has a much older client base...I would hate to see a teenage girl in those ads. It would be like seeing a Versace ad without sex appeal...yes it would be a surprise, but it wouldn't be sincere and true to the brand's legacy.
I trust Stefano and YSL's creative directors in their instint in choosing more refined women...Iman or Catherine Deneuve are the ultimate YSL women for me...that is what i am trying to say, there is no "YSL girl", only a "YSL woman"
I wouldn't limit Yves Saint Laurent to one type of woman - Yves Saint Laurent was a man who found beauty in everything - everyone. Is it a more of a sophisticated brand name? Definitely. But, I don't think only the supers should star in Stefano's campaigns for the brand. You don't see Naomi and Christy on the runway wearing the garments - you see young women. They don't look like young girls in their grandmother's clothing - they look great because it's all in the attitude, the strength and the overall look that YSL fashion gives them. That's the power of Yves Saint Laurent. Besides, when the supers first starred in campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent, they weren't "supers" - they were in their twenties. It's not about age. I think someone like Anna Jagodzinska or Zuzana Gregorova could handle the clothing beautifully.
Kate is short because she started being a model at 15, while she was still growing. They wanted her to be heroin chic and thin, and Kate probably ate less and forgot that when you are 15 if you eat less you don't grow taller.
LOL, I sound like a worried mommy! Haha :D
Nah, YSL is old people brand
I mean if a 16 year old girl were told that she can have free stuff from either YSL or Marc Jacobs, I bet you that the girl would choose stuff from Marc Jacobs
That is the reality of the situation, these design houses have different customer bases
if they were to choose someone young, they better choose someone who is pretty damn special who has sophistication way beyond her years
