Vogue Italia Goes Back To Black…With Barbie Dolls
Left: Vogue Italia supplement issue. Right: Vogue August 1940.
I know how much we all love our dolls. Barbie has the perfect measurements to be a model. Which is quite depressing.
Don’t you sorta wish that we could all just get past this whole “all black” thing and feature models of all races regularly? But that apparently is asking too much. I mean it is one year after that other all black issue, the Obamas are in the Whitehouse and we are still pulling this kind of shtick. Progress moves so slowly sometimes.
These “all black” issues sometimes rub me the wrong way. I know their intentions are noble and well meaning, but it is as if they are promoting “separatism” or “reverse racism”.
They should do something like this every month.
But then again, they don’t really make blaysian Barbies (ehem Chanel).
And speaking of black Barbies. Here is a proposition for future all black issues.
From Top Left: A topless Vogue Paris Shoot; working haute couture, perhaps Dior by John Galliano; backstage at Elie Saab; at a Lanvin show.
This was suppose to be the Versace whore, Beyonce, except the lighting made her look white. Versace Fall 2003- jealous much? I wish I had a chance to buy that doll. :-( Ebay is probably expensive.
Keeping it classy in Chanel, Oscar De La Renta and Larcoix. Via Vogue Paris.
And spotted recently at Steven Meisel’s set were Chanel, Jourdan, Ariel, Sesilee (in whack red wigs,) Kinee and Arlenis.
Of course Tyra Banks wasn't about to get left out. Here she is smiling with her eyes in a portrait by Meisel. And Sessile, looking like an African Queen from Philly.
Some more Chanel.
And some outtakes: Rumor has it that Tocorra was going to be the cover but Franca was hating. Meanwhile, Alek poses nude after some weight gain.

I love barbies! The fact that I have a four year old sister has made me play with them so much more... But let me say this... Barbie has become a whore! I find her in the mini skirts thst show her plastic undies and some shirts that are made out of the shoe lace on my shoe! And she always has these ruffled dresses that never cover her boobies properly! The nerve of some barbies!
The last dolls are the most similar to real black women.
Lol.. the last two..
Haha, the doll on the cover isn't even a barbie. I'm not like obsessed with dolls, but I'm pretty sure she's one of those "Fashion Royalty" dolls.
I CANNOT AGREE MORE. (about the all black issues.)
In my opinion, it further seperates the two races. And what about the other races of the world? It isn't just black and white. The world has so many colours in it. Why can't they have normal issues year round that contain diversity, rather than dedicating an issue to only one?
Naomi looks amazing!
Love the pictures.
