Harper's Bazaar September 2009

Harper's Bazaar is sinking lower and lower. Someone decided to put this girl on the cover because why? She wears clothing that was picked out for her and pretends to be a bitch on a High School TV show? What an extraordinary woman this Leighton is. I hope one day I can be a spoiled bitch with a fat face like her too. I don't understand the fascination behind that show, there is nothing interesting about teenagers who think they're cool because they have sex and act like total bitches for no reason. Whatever happened to poise and grace? What ever happened to fashion? This is the worst cover I have seen in a long time... Well, actually, the worst cover I have seen since last month.

Harper's Bazaar used to be about elegance, innovation and taste. Liz Tilberis is one of my biggest inspirations, and to see her magazine stoop this low is just so saddening. Harper's Bazaar was fashion, and reinvention. Liz Tilberis would never publish an issue covered in meaningless text with the most boring headline ever: "fall fashions", she would certainly not publish a cover so plain, commercial and unoriginal; and she would certainly not put a TV star who's claim to fame is encouraging young girls to think that it's cool to be nasty to one another and start idiotic teenage gossip instead of striving to be the best that they can be; being independent and smart.

Liz Tilberis made Harper's Bazaar bigger than Vogue in the nineties with her take on fashion. She provided the magazine with trendy and timeless, and worked with the best models and best photographers to provide the world with real elegance and beauty. She did all of this while battling an extremely severe case of Ovarian Cancer. The tole this took on her physically was incredibly harsh, yet she continued to revive the magazine with innovation and grace until she passed in the late nineties. She was an absolutely extraordinary woman. Now, Harper's Bazaar is level with US Weekly. It's simply a few pieces of glossy paper published for the sake of making money.

Liz Tilberis actually cared about the magazine, and her work was beyond amazing.

I'm afraid Liz Tilberis will never be able to publish another magazine, but I will devote my life to what Liz stood for, and I won't stop until I'm able to open people's minds and give beauty and elegance back to the world.

Although, the media portrayed Tilberis and Wintour as enemies considering they were each other's main competition, they were able to bond and build up a friendly relationship.

Tilberis had the best articles, covers, and editorials.

Rest in Peace Liz Tilberis, and Harper's Bazaar.

Leighton is an it-girl, of course she graces the covers of successful magazines, and if Blake Lively was on the cover of Vogue, why can't Leighton be on the cover of HB? I think it's amazing that she's on the cover, she proved that no matter where you come from and what your childhood is like, you can still be a star and an icon, and a true role model. To be honest, it's not that easy to find the perfect, graceful and a living legend covergirl, let's just be happy that it wasn't yet another Disney Channel star.

Is a role model considered a porn star? Leighton had a sex tape which is as trashy as a trailer park. Yes, you can say "forget the past and move on" but why? What has she done to become an it-girl? Has she done something for the community? What big movies has she been in since Gossip Girl? How many "it-girl" outfits has she had? One, two? I guess some people can consider her one but there are so many other American icons...why not choose them?

By the way... Natalia is on the UK version for Sept.

Ofcourse, everyone can have their meaning about someone, or something. But just because Leighton plays a bitch on Gossip Girl doesn't acutally mean that she is a bitch in real life too, or does it? And you said: "She wears clothing that was picked out for her", do you mean on the show or in real life? For both cases, stylist exist. For every tv show and movie, the clothing that is worn by the actors is chosen and styled by the stylists, and the same counts for real life, lots of famous people have stylist. Also, why just focus on Gossip Girl. Have you heard/seen Good Girls Go Bad from the Cobra Starship where she features and sings in? I recommend you watching it.

I'm all for Returning the Top Models to the covers of American Fashion magazines!

From my perspective, all she has done is provided a poor role model for young girls, and she has worn expensive clothing that was picked out. Wearing outfits that were picked out for you does not make you stylish. Other celebrities may have their clothing picked out for them, (when you have a stylist in real-life you still get the final say, but when you're working on the TV show you don't, you're just told what to wear, anyway...) at this point, Leighton has no other accomplishments besides her artificial style and her bad acting. They might as well have Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag on the cover. Not only that, but the cover is probably the most boring thing I have ever seen. Just look at the styling, and that basic pose with that fake smile, and even the text is so meaningless and boring.

That's just my opinion, I'm sorry if it was overly mean, I just can't believe how American fashion magazines, and fashion in general has changed so much.

OMG, the Fashion Factory! Great ed, I love Edie Sedgwick.

I know, I agree.. just the other day I was telling my mom about my theory on how I think HB might be going out of business or something. If they can't even get an interview with the girl, don't you think that something's going a little haywire in the financial department??
And it's sad, when fashion get's so commercial. It just turns into crap.

Leighton DOES emanate grace and poise - she shows that no matter where you come from or what you did you don't have to be DEFINED by that.
And if Blake is on the cover of Vogue, why Leighton can't be on Harper's Bazaar? She looks wonderful and she's NOT a fat-ass.
The only thing I don't like about the cover is the background - it isa ugly.

Lol I give up on HB.

The cover is awful but supposodley there are great stuff inside. I think there is a photoshoot with Lara by Uncle K inside as well as an ed with Stam.

soovintage, she never called her a 'fat-ass' she just said that she has a fat-face. Like a chubby baby. xP I'm not critizing her face or anything, just backing up Kasia's comments.

Ok, maybe saying she has a fat face was mean, but it seams as though she plays 'the bitch' on that show who thinks she is so much better than everyone else, when in actuality she's just an obnoxious spoiled kid, and I just don't think girls should look up to her character, and I just think in general this cover is awful, nothing convinces me that Harper's Bazaar is a fashion magazine when I look at this.

And I'm not for Blake Lively getting that Vogue cover. Although she looked beautiful, I do not think she deserved it, I think they were just trying to sell issues.
